review 1: The Beauty Within is a great historical romance. I really like how the author shows two people with a lot of insecurities, yet their desire for one another is so strong that they are not sure how to handle it or where it will lead them next. Lady Cressida knows she’s not beautiful, but she is extremely smart and loves science, especially anything that deals with mathematical equations. Knowing that everything has a reason, she uses her love of math in everyday life. She knows her father has given up on her ever finding a husband. She’s had many seasons to find a husband with no prospects to show for it, but this year she will have to give up another opportunity for finding someone to her sister. She doesn’t really care because if she can prove that the project she ... moreis secretly working on will help others, she can take care of herself and will no longer need a husband anyway. Giovanni is an Italian artist set on proving his talents will be the best and in high demand. He is building a good reputation in London, but now he wonders if he really has accomplished his dream. He had lost his muse years ago, and now, he paints what his patrons want to see not what he feels. There was a time when he truly loved what he did but he no longer has the passion, and his paintings no longer show people his real talent anymore. Giovanni has been commissioned by Cressie’s father to paint a portrait of her younger brothers. He is captivated by Cressie, and he wants to put her likeness on canvas more than he’s wanted to paint in a very long time. When she tells him that the art of painting is based on the rules of mathematics, Giovanni challenges Cressie into proving her theory by painting two different portraits of her. He will prove that there is nothing mathematical about the way he paints a portrait. Cressie cannot stop herself from accepting the challenge, so she agrees to let him paint the first portrait by the rules she believes in, then, a second painting where he will paint her just as he sees her. What neither of them expected is that the length of time and privacy they need for the portraits will have their hearts opening to feelings they never planned on. Giovanni believes he is not good enough for her, and Cressie knows he will not stay once he completes the portrait of her brothers. Is there a chance that Cressie can make him see his worth, and help him believe in himself enough to start painting portraits with his heart again? Will she give him a reason to stay when his commission is completed?I received a copy for free from the author in exchange for an honest review
review 2: THE BEAUTY WITHIN by Marguerite Kaye is an exciting Regency Historical Romance. An artist and a mathematician makes quiet the pair. Both rebellious toward their fathers, both lonely, low self esteem, but will they be able to find love and happiness. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the eye can see beauty when others see a plain Jane. Giovanni di Matteo an artist who paints beautiful portraits, but has lost his inspiration,he's lonely, until suddenly and unexpectedly he meets Cressie... Lady Cressida Armstrong is clever, lonely, considered plain, adores math, and is determined never to marry, but suddenly and unexpectedly meets Giovanni... A tale of passion, love, and compassion. A historical romance with a unique plot and characters who will engage the readers. Ms. Kaye is a wonderful storyteller, who has written with passion, and her characters are realistic and encourages us all to look a little deeper for "The Beauty Within". A must read! I would highly recommend this title to anyone who enjoys historical romance with a twist.
