review 1: I read this as part of the Midnight Ink Anthology. Caliph is a tattoo artist at Midnight Ink. Jennifer comes in to get a tattoo as part of her "moving on" plan after leaving a 17-year marriage (heroine is 39). Caliph is attracted to her, and asks her out. He is 32 by the way. It starts as a planned casual encounter, but they fall for each other. The characters are interesting, and I liked that they were both older, but this story to me just lacked depth. Mari Carr's writing is always good though, so 3 stars for writing. This is #1 of her Big Easy series, and I have read the second. It was nice to see Caliph and Jen highlighted.
review 2: Well written and edited novella. No cliffhanger.I really enjoyed this story of about an older novice submission and
... more younger Dom. The pacing felt realistic and the dialog seemed natural. The heat is high, especially in the early scenes where he's introducing her to the concept of submission and BDSM.The conflict in the story is with past events and the way the characters dealt with those memories and their responses in the present day weren't over-the-top, but very genuine.I'm looking forward to reading future books in the series.Strongly recommend. less
