review 1: It was short- not a problem. And coming to this after having first read the trilogy, it seemed a little pointless. But, had I read this immediately after Poison Study I would have enjoyed the unique POV, the changes in Valek, and the starting show of the depth of his loyalty and love. As it was, coming back to it, I was relatively uninterested and really didn't enjoy the "vote your choice" bits making it seem very choose your own adventure ( Geez, been years since I read one of those. For a reason.).
review 2: For a novella it was okay. It is free online on Maria V. Snyder's website, so I don't know how many pages this would equal out to be, just that its 5 "chapters." I liked that it was in Valek's POV but it wasn't as interesting as I had hoped it would be. I
... moret seemed a little more rushed, and I get that a novella doesn't need to be super perfect. It's basically just a little taste, not usually essential to the overall picture. I think if you can access and have the time and are waiting desperately to get #2, then go for it. Not sure yet how it will play into Magic Study, if at all. less

I love the challenging themes in these books. I love Yelena she is a strong character.

Still not a fan of short stories, but nice with a bit more Valek :)

Taková jednohubka, hezky zpracovaný námět. A Valek... .)))

Short, pointless story. Luckily it's free.
