review 1: This is a solid 3-stars kind of book. It's funny and sweet in many ways and I enjoyed it, but it just was lacking in the depth that would have pushed it to a 4 stars. The main character has a very strong voice and I found myself laughing alongside her many times, but the others felt rather one-dimensional and flat. I liked the hero, but only because he was so sweet to the heroine, and the romance really took a back seat to the heroine talking about weight loss (which did get a little old). There were moments where the writing was golden, but it was mostly because I loved the heroine's snarky voice.
review 2: (More like a 2.5, but, as we know, no half-stars.) As a less than skinny chick (more than skinny?), I really wanted to adore this book. And, in the beginni... moreng, I did. I liked the character, her weight group issues, her business, her baggage with the ex. And the writing was solid. But somewhere along the line, both the story and the writing slipped and it lost me. The potential-love-interest-turned-friend, who I really liked, just sorta disappeared, the character got progressively less sympathetic, the sister's sudden angst seemed out of left field, the dark moment felt contrived, and the wrap up was a bit too pat. I'd love to see this author continue to work on her craft and publish more though because it started out great and had awesome potential. less
