review 1: Im struggling with this book. English is not my 1st language, so my english is not very good either. But the words structure in this book really make me wanna tear this book apart!Eample:"As the meal had arrived she had felt hungry enjoying the meal as he had smiled warmly at her."...WHAT?!! And the never ending use of the word 'HAD'! It is so annoying!!!Its frustrating because I kinda like the storyline. I really wanna finish this book - currently at page 29. but i dont know if i have enough strength to overlook the 'hads' and the confusing sentences that make my head feels dizzy.Wish me luck!!
review 2: ... The authors writing drives me mad... And I keep swearing off reading another of her books cause I 'just can't take ANOTHER ''had''!'. If you've read any o... moref her books, you'll know what I mean. I think Marie may have a patent or something on the word 'had', cause she uses it like she would the space bar. I would love nothing better than to get my hands on these books so that I could edit a few hundred 'hads' out of each one. (if you're reading this Marie... Yes I am serious... Just let me know!). Anyway back to the books. They are all pretty similar with nice stories and characters that I almost always enjoy. So when I find myself at loose ends and can't be bothered searching for a book... I have found myself just grabbing another Marie Kelly and practicing my selective reading skills to try and skim the ever present 'hads'. Yes it's annoying, and it doesn't always work for me - especially when there is an appropriate 'had' and I've blanked it out.Sadly, if it wasn't for the mental editing involved in reading these books, I think they would easily be on my 'go to - nice easy re-read list'. Yes, I've just bagged them out... But I still keep reading them! less
