review 1: In The Young Elites, Marie Lu creates a new world that, in typical fantasy tradition, is vaguely medieval with a touch of European flair. Names like Adelina and Violetta conjure an old Italian community. A plague sweeps through the world leaving some scarred and with unexplainable powers. These malfettos are despised by the royal family and slated for elimination. My creates a complex story that goes far beyond having powers. There's political intrigue, romance, family relationships and an epilogue that opens up a whole new part of the world with several new and fascinating characters. I can't wait for the next book.
review 2: This was a fun, quick read! It seemed like a cross between Bone Season and X-men. There was a virus, many died. Some who survived gai... morened special powers and abilities as a side effect. The world sees them as abominations and they are rejected and hunted by society. There is an 'elite' group that become crusaders which at this point, we are unsure if they are the good guys or the bad guys. It was a great set-up for a new series! less
