review 1: Buying The Shadow Society was something of an impulsive buy. After reading The Winner's Curse several months back and absolutely adoring it, I was itching to read more of Marie Rutkoski's writing - TSS was my solution. It is important to state that this was very, very different from TWC. If I had gone into this novel blind, I don't think I would have been able to guess that it was written by the same author. The writing styles, the characters, the plot, and the setting were all completely different. However, I still fell into the world and attached myself to Darcy Jones and Conn McCrea. The fast-paced story line and the fierce protagonist made The Shadow Society a highly entertaining and extremely fun book. Overall, it was a good time and I had no problem devouring it in a ... moresitting. The only criticism I cannot look past is the somewhat anticlimactic feel I got from the ending. I was so very much hoping that all my needs would be fulfilled by the end of the book, but I felt like it was slightly incomplete. And, I mean, I hadn't gotten enough of Darcy/Conn. Because they are adorable together. Recommended for those looking for something that will coax them out of a reading slump or something mysteriously fun.
review 2: This book reminded me too much of "Winner's Curse" by Marie rutkoski. Of course there are two people who fall in love then one of them betrays the other and suddenly there's this love/hate relationship. Also on winner'a curse kestrel was saying "I wonder if he realized that he just gave me a weapon." And it says something similar in shadow society. But I'm still reading this book so I hope it gets more interesting than it ready is! less
