review 1: This book is gorgeous, physically, from the artwork to the weight of its pages. (I've always loved the aesthetic of lotería cards.) The story itself is alright. I just find it hard to really enjoy a novel when I don't love the protagonist. Even harder when not one character is likable. I did like that the story was written in Spanglish, so it was a bit of a refresher for me with the little bits of Spanish I retained. I also learned a few maldiciones along the way and for that I will be forever grateful.

The book jumps around at different times in the protagonist's life. It's not in a format or genre that I'm used to reading. less
