review 1: First let me say that you need to be a nerd to want to read this book (yes, I'm a nerd). Although I liked the book despite having already known a lot about the scientist covered in the book (hardly the author's fault) I won't really call most of what is covered as "brilliant Blunders" but it did show me a different side of the scientists which we normally only ever hear about their Brilliant ideas. So from that prospective I learn more about the history and story of these scientists.
review 2: The book is sensationally titled, purporting to tell of great discoveries that turned out to be right for the wrong reasons, but fails to deliver. Only in Darwin's case, in his overlooking the consequences of the genetic theory of his time, does a big mistake lead to be
... moretter understanding of anything. In the case of the discovery of the structure of DNA, Linus Pauling did get it wrong, but his mistake did not contribute advance our knowledge. The cosmological constant of Einstein wasn't a mistake at all. The book is an amusing telling of these discoveries and only mildly interesting from the point of view of the fallibility of great minds. less
