review 1: The Secret River by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings was an amazing story with a very strong plot. In this story, a little girl who learns her father is struggling with work. He is a fisherman, and the river is dry with no fish in it. This causes stress and hardship over the girls whole home town. She decided she needed to help her father find the fish. She goes to the oldest and wisest woman in the town, who tells her about a secret river in the forest filled with fish for the town to have. The little girl then embarks and her magical adventure to find the secret pond, and save her family and town from all of their problems. This story's plot thickens as the story goes on, and unfolds to be a truly remarkable tale. The pictures throughout the story had tremendous amounts of detai... morel, and hidden messages and pictures throughout them. The images helped put the reader in the imaginative mind of the little girl, and took them on the adventure with her as well. The vibrant colors and paintings helped enhance the beauty of which the little girls sees the world in, even in the darkest places. The Secret RIver by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings was a remarkable story with a very strong plot.

Deep in the dark forest of Florida is a community reliant on each other. If one fails, like a domino they are all impacted.Hard times occurred in the forest. The rivers carrying fish for Calpurnia's father to sell have all gone dry. Hard times hit harder for poor people. Calpurnia wondered how she could possibly help her father and their community.Remembering a small pond where she and her dog fished unsuccessfully, she thought that perhaps fish would bite the line of something pretty, instead of worms. Folding pink roses, she visited wise Mother Albirtha for guidance.Mother Albirtha told Calpuniia of a secret river teaming with so very many fish that when caught, they would sink a boat. Mother Albirtha told her to trust her sense of findiing the river by following her nose. Eventually finding the magic river, Calpurnia was astounded at the amount and size of the fish Using her paper roses as bait, she caught many fishGiving fish to the animals along the way, there still was enough overflowing to give to Mother Albirtha and her father to sell.Highly recommended.The illustrations are breath taking!!! less
