review 1: An excellent diagnosis of the existential abyss left by modern capitalism, written with feet in both pop culture and academia. One cannot read this without appreciating that something is terribly wrong with the way we live. However, like all great critics of capitalism, Fisher has left my feeling a little disappointed with his vagueness when it comes to formalizing an escape plan. Despite the interesting but scattered concluding chapter about the possibility of a 'Marxist Supernanny', I must admit that my immediate impression is that the answer to the titular question is "no".
review 2: This book talks a lot about thoughts tat I've had, which is kind of sad, because now I'll not be revolutionary by writing them down. It delves into the lived experience of mo
... moredern corporate bureaucratism, It's a shame it resorts to pop culture references - I'd rather the author found some real people to talk to. There's also a few too many references to other authors such as Zizek, which assumes knowledge that the reader may not possess. Still, a good examine of the Kafqaesque nature of modern working life. less
