review 1: I really enjoyed this book. I have always been really interested in the early days of Hollywood. The story was fun and kept me reading. Even when I had to put it down to do something else, I was able to go back to it and not feel lost or have to go back and re-read previous pages to get back into it. The characters were interesting and I liked their individual stories. The ONLY complaint I had was that when I got this, I missed that it is the first in a series. So, at the end, all the issues were not wrapped up. Everything was left kind of open with the possibility of more story to come. I don't know if the next book picks up where this left off or if it is about something completely different. However, I liked this enough that I will probably pick up the next one ... moreand read it too.
review 2: When a good writer is having fun with his story, it can be delightfully contagious for the reader. Turnbull's love of the golden age of Hollywood shines through every page as his fictional characters interact with the likes of Tallulah Bankhead, Greta Garbo, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, to name just a few. 1930s Hollywood is skillfully brought to life in a charming and believable way, and Turnbull's breezy style moves things along at a good clip. A fast and fun read! less
