The Adventures of Lily Lapp
review 1: When I was a little girl, I loved hearing stories about the Amish. My family had the opportunity to visit an Amish community on vacation one year and I instantly became enthralled with everything -- the clothes they wore, the food they ate, the horses and buggies, the sweet bonnets. This book would have been perfect for me! If you have a daughter from 8-12 years old, you share it with her!Life with Lily tells the story of 6-year-old Lily Lapp. It's written almost as a journal of her day-to day life, as though the author is peeking in the window watching everything that happens. From the birth of her baby brother to days at the little red schoolhouse, where she loves art the most, and a trip on a bus from New York to Kentucky to visit her grandparents, Lily's life is full o... moref fun and mischief, with a bit of sadness now and then. Most importantly, Lily is growing up learning what it means to be Amish, in a community filled with people she loves, new puppies to adore, and a young life full of adventures. This book is wholesome and sweet, one to be treasured by little girls (and boys!), perfect for young readers or a family read-aloud. I can't recommend it highly enough.
review 2: Life with Lily is such a sweet book! We follow five year old Lily through her days on the family’s farm, Singing Tree Farm.Lily has a little brother, Joseph and the family welcomes their new baby Dannie during the story. Lily’s days filled with fun and wonder with such things like helping to plant the garden, adding a cow and chickens to their small farm. Lily helps her mother and loves to visit her grandparents. Lily and Joseph even get into a bit of mischief! I have been reading Life with Lily aloud to Justin and Kaden and all three of us have loved this story! Some of our favorite parts of the book are when Joseph falls into the the vat of oil used to soften harness for the horses at Grandpas! We could just imagine the shock and surprise on Joseph’s (and Grandpa and Lily’s too!) faces! One of the boy’s favorite parts of the story are when baby Dannie is born and Lily asks her father where the baby came from? Papa told her that God brought him. Lily thought God had visited their home while she and Joseph were at Grandma and Grandpa’s. Lily was very disappointed to think she had missed his visit! To make matters worse Lily thought that God had chosen to give them the ugliest baby she had ever seen. He was red, wrinkly and bald! We had a good laugh over that one too!We really enjoyed this story and are looking forward to the rest of the series! Life with Lily is a great book to introduce your children to Amish life. The age recommendations are for ages 8-12.disclosure: I received a copy of this book from Litfuse in exchange for my honest review. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own. less
