review 1: Unlikely, out-there, a demented soap opera. It is all over the place and ..... not normal! It reads quickly and kept my interest but I had no idea what would happen next as the characters seem to have emotional ADHD. They don't stay in character if you can even get a grasp on their particular character traits in the first place. Weird stuff is always happening and nothing really makes sense. The only consistent thing going on here is Lacey's deafness and the deaf community which makes me think that the author has personal knowledge of this subject. One day, Lacey who is deaf and was raised in an orphanage, gets a letter in her mailbox that states she has an identical twin and to go down to this bookstore and check it out. She sees her face on a poster as the author of... more a book. So she goes in and defaces a book and is rude to the bookstore owner. Then she lies to her boyfriend about why she is upset and will be late for dinner. Does this sound rational? And this is just the beginning. Monica, the twin, seems normal, at first, except she carries around sleeping pills just in case she wants to end it all and she can't stand her staid boyfriend who never wants to have sex. After much drama the twins finally meet each other. Is it a happy reunion? For a few hours and then Lacey says it was nice meeting you, I never want to see you again. What? Then there is the whole lock the parents in the basement scenario. We really get off into la la land here. The only normal character is Alan, Lacey's boyfriend, and he is suspect in my mind, due to his proximity to and affection for this group of characters who are constantly changing and looking crazy like fun house images of the people they were introduced to us as.
review 2: I almost stopped reading this book several times. It is very slow to start and just when it finally picks up she slows down again. while there were twist and turns nothing really unexpected and everyone lives happily ever after. What I could not get over in the end is the parents excuse for abandoning their daughter. This is a story about identical twins separated as toddlers and unexpectdly finding out about each other 20,years later. parts of it we not believable and some of it was just far fetched less
