review 1: I have really become a fan of Mary Connealy!! I first read her Montana Marriages trilogy and absolutely fell in love with The Husband Tree..... the pattern continues as I read her Lassoed in Texas trilogy. I just love this story about Grace and Daniel and the five ornery Reeves boys. As Grace's story unfolds and she turns from a prissy little schoolmarm into an innocent and charming young lady forced to grow up too quickly in a cruel and unjust world back in Chicago running from a vicious monster only to end up the new mother of the five most unruly and honestly terrifying little kids you could ever meet, you just fall in love with her! The descriptions of each of the boys and the development of their characters is quite impressive. As they each fall in love with their new... more mother, you can't help but fall in love with them! The love story between Grace and Daniel is enchanting and endearing also!! And the evil Master Parrish...... you really loathe this character!! I also like that several characters from the first novel have solid supporting roles in this one along with the introduction of other new characters!! Trust me, for historical Christian fiction fans.... this is a story you don't want to miss!!
review 2: We learn in Calico Canyon that stiff school marm, Miss Grace Calhoun, is actual a very naive 17 year old who has lived a hard and cruel life due to her adopted father, Parrish. She flees Parish in middle of the night and hides in Daniel Reeves wagon and ends up nearly frozen to death where he keeps her along with his 5 sons until the Parson and his wife show up the next morning and force marriage upon them. It's a rough and challenging time for all 7 of them, but they learn love and forgiveness. And most of all, regarding God, Great is thy Faithfulness. God never fails or deserts us, we are the ones who leave. less
