review 1: Emily and Alexander are about as opposite as two people can be, a Quaker abolitionist and a southern gentleman helping the confederacy. Despite having very different viewpoints on the Civil War, they must learn to live in the same household, as she is the governess for his nieces. The story held my interest, but I did not give it five stars because I found a couple of things in the story not quite believable, such as the almost too perfect acceptance the Benningtons gave Emily, even after they discover what she's done. Civil War buffs will love this one.
review 2: I had the privilege of reading Mary Ellis’ first book in her Civil War historical romance series, The Quaker and the Rebel. I fell in love with Ms. Ellis’ style through her many Amish series, and
... more her ability to interweave God’s truth through believable characters and a grabbing storyline. She uses that same gift and crafts the beginning of another great series, this time set in the Civil War period of American history. I love how she creates strong characters, both men and women, people I would love to meet and join their community. I’m looking forward to her next book and getting to continue the adventure with another woman’s story from American history. less

Pretty good. Wasn't very inspirational though.
