review 1: As an adult there are things people call us that we do not want to be. As a child Mia did not always want to be a princess and her imagination took her far away from the title of "princess". The amazing thing was people still viewed her as a princess. It makes me think of how many times that I have called a child a nickname and I wonder how many times they wanted to be anything but! Great kids story that I will re-read many time to my nieces and nephews and kids to come.
review 2: In Not Just a Princess, readers are introduced to Mia, a sparkling and creative young girl who fancies herself to be a lioness, a pirate, a cowgirl, or a deep sea explorer – NOT just a princess with a pretty dress. Her mother loves her just the same. But, as Mia admits, on some day
... mores, it's okay to be a princess! I love the theme of this book and the fact that it encourages young girls to go beyond imagining themselves as 'pretty princesses'. We need more little girls in the world with the courage to share their creativity and intelligence – and Mia and her mother are good role models. The illustrations are another highlight of this book - colorful and engaging, very appropriate for the intended audience of young readers. The simple language used in the story would be perfect for English Language Learners. I can indeed envision a series of Mia stories and look forward to seeing what she does next! less
