review 1: This was a really strange book. It seemed at first to feature the college professor, who is a serial killer. At some point, the author changed focus to two teenage girls, sort of friends. One, Lu,'Trailer Trash Girl, has a sort of ghost, Talion, who watches out for her. Her father and stepmother work at a rural hotel owned by the aunt and uncle of Lisa, who is visiting them for the summer. Naturally, Professor Serial Killer is a guest at the hotel, and things start to go bad. I don't want to ruin it for you, if you decide to read this. It took me a while to get into it, and then I found it rather compelling. It helped fill the time during Storm Nemo.
review 2: I read Talion believing I was reading paranormal when, really, there is very little paranormal.
... more I would more categorize this as urban horror. It is so disturbing, on so many levels, that it might leave you feeling, well, weird. It was strange to be so intimately attached to such twisted trains of thought, but the writing is exceptional–the character descriptions are wonderful, and the tale spins wonderfully. The serial killer is easy to despise and, truthfully, I want to feel something when I read. Talion is not for the faint of heart. It will disturb even a stable mind, but the art-form of the author's talent is beautiful. Someone who appreciates this particular very dark and twisted genre will love it. For that reason, I objectively give it 5 stars! less
