review 1: This was a fun one to sit and read together on the couch. Reuben is bored. Thankfully, Grandma gives him a piece of gum--with some very clear restrictions from mom. Reuben disobeys mom's rules one at a time and all kinds of fun ensues. Loved the pictures in this one, although they would not be good for a read aloud at school. There is too much happening and the drawings are small. Still, loved exploring the pictures and inferring what was "really" happening through discussion with my own kids. Very cute.Best part: Got a great giggle from my 3yo on the last page! What a mess!!
review 2: Ruben is bored on a rainy day, so his mom and Grammy suggest he play with his little brother, Julius. Ruben is much more rambunctious than serious and quiet Julius, so the
... moreir mom asks Ruben to be quieter. Finally, after more requests for Ruben to settle down, Grammy has an idea to give them gum, and that's when the real trouble begins! Such cute little characters, and Cordell captures the funniest expressions in such seemingly simple drawings. Kids will have great fun with the onomatopeoia throughout the book. less

Ruben (what a terrible name for a pig, btw...) breaks all the rules when it comes to gum.
