review 1: This was a very interesting book with a very interesting cast of characters. A girl travels though time seven years in the future from the Kingdom of Ohio to New York City and meets a subway worker at the turn of the century. They meet famous men of their time like Edison, Tesla, and J.P. Morgan. The best thing about this book is the blending of fiction and truth. At times it reads like an expository text with footnotes and all. It switches back and forth between time periods as well. I also enjoyed the science and engineering aspect of the plot. And the ending, well, I liked it. :)
review 2: Oh, time travel books....you just mess with my head...but in such a delightful way!It took me a long time to read this book, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. It was just one
... moreof those books that didn't call to me to pick up but when I did I couldn't put it down. (Probably because it's not light, fluffy reading and sometimes after work or a hard day that is just what I need.)I love the idea that there was a sovereign Kingdom in Ohio that the US grew up around. That alternative realities exist. That it all tied back to the Roanoke colony. (When that happened....squee!!!) That the NY subway tunnels were really to find a time portal and were a battle ground between Telsa and Edison. Loved the historical details and the real figures/facts/research woven into the story. I didn't like so much the characters. They were underdeveloped and maybe it would have been an easier read with stronger characters. The narrative style also took a bit to get used to. But...the ending. The ending was great. less

A somewhat predictable, overall, story of time travel, Tesla, Edison, and alternate universes.

Changed my review from 4 stars. Very engrossing but fizzled out into a disappointing ending.

I'm not sure what happened here--I liked it enough. But eventually I just stopped reading.
