review 1: This book was just not for me. Great title and probably the only character in the book who wasn't disgusting ... Well, the detective was okay. This was just too much. Very bad language replete with description of bodily functions. Loathsome characters, nothing humorous (unless you are a six year old boy). So disappointing because it seemed like it would be a funny caper type book. On the other hand, this was an audio book and the reader was great.
review 2: Nick Valentine is a boozing, narcotics snorting, wise ass who plays on both sides of the law by helping the cops on murder investigation while hoping to get his a share of money stolen from a credit union. When he is not taking care of his dog, he's going through the rougher sections of St. Louis looking f... moreor clues, strippers or booze. He’s one of a kind and often the smartest guy in the room. Funny, dark, disgustingly brutal and mostly amoral (though there are some codes, like don’t mess with someone else’s dog.), if you’re not easily offended, then this read is for you. less
