review 1: Mike Ford is about as interesting a protagonist as you can get. Smart, worldly, connected in the weirdest ways; he is wildly entertaining. And that what this book is too, wildly entertaining. A story that just will not quit. There are twists, turns and tumbles of every kind at every corner. No, it isn't a classic but it sure will keep you turning the pages until (almost) the very end. It probably is only 3 1/2 stars but it was so much fun I will round it up. I look forward to the next one.
review 2: The Directive is, for the most part, a fast-paced, can't stop reading thriller. It does bog down somewhat as Mike Ford is figuring out exactly into what kind of mess he has become entangled. The Directive is a piece of paper that comes from the Fed and says
... more they will either keep the economy going strong or will try to slow it down. There is a plot to steal it. Mike's plan is to get married. He wants a nice stable life and is finally ready to settle down to a normal, unexciting suburban life. But Mike also has a history. A criminal history that he has worked hard to over come. His brother drags him back into trouble and gets him involved in a scheme that involves some very powerful people. The character of Mike is a very likeable and the fact that you want his life to work out is the main reason you are compelled to keep reading. Well, that and to find out if and how he pulls it all off. The Directive is a quick read and would make a great summer beach read. less
