review 1: I actually kind of liked the format of the pages with the illustrations and the "blood" leaking down the pages and so forth but there wasn't anything new in these stories. If I didn't recognize the tale right off I knew quite a few storylines and new how they would all end. I wouldn't say these were "twisted" at all, they were right up the same alley as the Grimm's versions. I figured it meant at least the endings, the main character's fates would be changed, but not really.
review 2: I've always been a big fan of fairy tales so I was excited to find this illustrated volume at my local library. This book written by Maura McHugh and illustrated by Jane Laurie has grisly versions of some of the classic fairy tales such as Snow White and Rapunzel as well as some l... moreess familiar tales. I enjoyed this book, it was well written and the illustrations were stunning and helped to enhance the stories. Fabulous read, highly recommended for fairy tale or fantasy lovers! less
