review 1: I suspended my disbelief one heck of a lot with this book. Olivia wants to explore all the carnal pleasures that married life might offer without, you know, the inconvenience of marriage, and so goes on the prowl to find a suitable fellow to help her out. Of course, he's an honourable type that you just know is going to insist on a HEA. Nathaniel is under pressure to court and wed a suitable lady and Olivia's request throws him into a tizzy. You can only imagine how news of her idea would throw her ultra-conventional sisters for a loop!I felt as if the two main characters weren't the most well-developed and that the inevitable fall-out of her scandalous scheme was rather unsurprising. I did like Olivia's devotion to her studies and I appreciated that Nathaniel was the kind... more of man who liked a smart woman, but I didn't really ever engage deeply with their relationship.
review 2: So, Olivia is 27, likes watching the stars and has no intention of getting married. However, she would like to know what it is like to make love to a man, so she propositions Nathaniel - asking him to pretend to court her whilst actually teaching her about sex.Initially horrified by being propositioned in such a way Nathaniel becomes intrigued and swiftly falls in love. But Olivia sees no reason to change their relationship.A pleasant story - I probably would have liked it more if the hero and his family and the heroine's family didn't browbeat and blackmail her into marrying him. I first identified this phenomenon in NA/YA books where the heroine's best friend felt more like a frenemy - pushing them into doing things they don't want etc. But it seems to be spreading. less
