review 1: Megan Hart's books filled with sex scenes so they are categorized as Adult books. But what makes me reading her books is the psychological state of the characters in her book. They always have background stories that consciously or not determine their perspectives on sex. And Megan Hart never opened the stories until almost the end so I had to wait through scene after scene to understand the characters' psyche. And Megan Hart never make her characters black and white - hero vs. villain. Her characters were always get absolution at the end. That makes Megan Hart's books interesting to read.
review 2: ARC received by the Publisher via Net GalleyIf you've read Megan Hart before you know she is not the average writer. You know she does not conform, nor is she ave
... morerage. Her book ratings range all over the place which is why I've learned you just can't judge her books by the "average" rating. Her stories are deep and emotional, maybe too real. We choose to love stories we relate to and/or get lost in, its about the fiction. When stories or feelings creep too close to home in this genre they don't usually do as well. I'm not sure what happened with this story. The story and Stella are compelling. What starts off as the author making the reader almost judge Stella ends with compassion and empathy. You don't know why she is the way she is until much later. Then when the story does come full circle Megan Hart knocks it out of the ball park and how a reader can not feel for her is beyond me. This is a story of forgiveness and acceptance. A story of the evolution of Stella. How would one deal with the pain that Stella and her family has endured? Would you continue to feel? Would you be numb? Stella does what she does because it is the only way she can "feel", it is all she has to keep her sane and somewhat in touch in this dark world she has been in for ten years. Her interactions with those in her life are at arms length and she doesn't even know it. The author has no problem making you feel Stella's emotions whether pain, lust, selfishness, love, or when she is numb. There are some beautiful deep quotes and parts of this book where as a reader you highlight like crazy. So why 4 stars? Well the flow of the story at times is choppy. The reader has no idea that we are being taken back in the past and then sprung forward to the present. It takes a while to figure out if one chooses to go back and re read. The ending? Is the book not yet finished? It is NOT a cliffy or anything like that but the story just...stops? Yes something occurs where it could make the reader assume there is a HEA however if you have read any prior Megan Hart books your used to the endings being wrapped up. I don't know, it just seemed like a cop out. Like she didn't want to write a HEA or an epilogue-almost like she was forced to end it this way? I loved getting to know Stella and found myself feeling for her and Tristan in so many ways. The story line with Craig and Matthew seem unresolved, more so Matthew's. How do we know if he changed? Overall I'm glad I read Flying, I love the way Megan uses her craft to make me feel. less
