review 1: While I am about halfway through Her Dark Curiosity, I definitely feel that this is not as good as the first. I agree with many that the love triangle severely affects the storyline, and not in a good way. However, my biggest complaint are the typos. I'm usually not a stickler for errors in books and I'd rather just gloss over them for the sake of enjoying the story, but these are stupid, simple fixes. Some that I noticed include: "By afternoon tea my tongue was raw from swallowing pills..." On page 236 and Edward misspelled as "Edeard" in the first half of the book. Maybe it's just my copy? I bought it off BookOutlet, which sells books that are not fit for resell from manufacturers. I loved the first book, but this one does not meet expectations.
review 2: I w
... moreish this book had a different title, as it seems to be trying too hard to sound like one of the long-published, amazing titles by Pullman. That being said, I enjoyed this second in the series. My favorite element of the story is watching the growth of characters along what would definitely not be called conventional lines. They are typical in appearance only and I dig that. Even the sort of love story triangle/quadrangle that has manifested doesn't bug me, as it is sort of weird and twisted and generally not what I'm expecting. Looking forward to the finish in 2015. less
