review 1: This Gothic thriller totally pulled me in at the beginning of the story. I loved Juliet's character at first, but as the book progressed, she kind of annoyed me. I think it was the love triangle that did it - and the quick flip-flops back and forth in her mind between Montgomery and Edward. That said, there was a decent creepy factor when they were on the island, and the twist at the end was great.
review 2: I can't decide. 4 stars because I was so pulled into the story and needed to know what happened next. 3 stars for being predictable (and for the other details I want to argue about). I did not realize that this is part of a trilogy, though, so perhaps there are some things coming that will make me reconsider and go for the 4 stars. Definitely looking for

I really enjoyed this book. It's based on the story of Dr. Moreau.
