review 1: What’s the Buzz: So we’ve got two broken characters; Eponine (Eppie) who allegedly tried to commit suicide at the ripe age of 9 years old; and whose mother is now absent, and father is an alcoholic. She seems to be left to her own devices, which, at first, seemed a little strange to me considering people thought she was actually suicidal. Then you’ve got Lincoln, who you don’t realize is “broken” until a bit later – but you suspect it pretty much from the start. The tie that binds them together is a helpless stray dog that gets hit by a car…well, at first; but then of course they keep making eyes at each other, and, well, you know…What I loved: Lincoln is awkward. He’s tall and lanky, and he seems to say what he’s thinking, even if it seems to ... morebe a little left of center. It’s kind of adorable. And Eppie is cautious and innocent, but it’s to be expected. She protects herself by keeping things inside, but as she learns to trust and rely on Lincoln, she shows growth. While she’s been dealt kind of a rough hand, she’s not exactly an “emo” teenager playing the “woe is me” card whenever she gets a chance, though she has her moments of shutting down and retreating back into herself. I really just loved that there was not really an insta-love thing going on here. There was a relationship that was built brick after brick, a pretty good, solid foundation. Lincoln was kind and patient with Eppie, and said some of the most amazingly sweet, romantic things to her that we only wish guys would really say.Not so much: While I’m glad for the minor characters, Dan and Sam, as they provided depth to the story, I just wasn’t a big fan of them. More so, I guess we just really didn’t get to know them well enough. It felt like there was a whole story there that wasn’t being told, and I’m not 100 percent sure I really want to read a full length novel on them, I still feel like I missed out on some stuff. Can my kids read this? Older, mature teenager I’d say. There’s some language, and talk of sex – nothing graphic.
review 2: First off this was an awesome story there was no part I did not like. Second I want to give the author my kudos… She has a special talent of taking tragedy and making it beautiful. Her writing was superb you get the story with no run around of too much information. I loved her style of writing, this was my first book I have read of hers and I won it in a contest. Though I would have bought it anyways do to the feedback. It was fan-freakin-tastic! ;)The story is about Eponine aka Eppie’s life. She had an unfortunate upbringing. This made her feel as if she was damaged goods, no one will want her. So her sole focus was on school and succeeding, education will be her ticket away from her less than stellar home life. Through ill-fated events she ends up encountering super hot VW van owning Lincoln. I don’t know about you but after reading this story I want to get VW van so my hubby can drive it around. When they meet it was attraction but just that, it was a very slow build up and I absolutely fell in love with both of them. They were so sweet yet sweetly broken souls who need each other.“And I more- than- like, less- than- love you, too.” ~ EppieAlong with Eppie and Lincoln there was her psychiatrist /father figure Phil, her best friend Sam and Lincoln’s best friend Dan. This was a band of brothers that was bound by misfortunate events but has formed a concrete bond that’s thicker than blood.“And this family, this mismatching of lost and lonely souls this was the only family I’d ever want to be a part of.” ~EppieThey came into this relationship with an unbelievable amount of hurt and pain caused by their own family. Sometimes blood isn’t thicker than water.“….when it all comes down to it, I think it’s that love that ultimately cured me.” ~EppieI give this book 5 stars it was a super amazing read! If there was any $%@#& language it was light because I never saw it… Absolutely no nono scenes! It never even got to heavy! Though it was my first read by Ms. Megan Squires it won’t be my last she’s a great author!Check out my blog at lindylubookreview.com less
