review 1: Great book. I mean really great book. Torin's character is so complex...and funny!Wonderful clean romance with humor, a hint of mystery, and lots of self-discovery by the characters. In fact, while romance is the obvious course of the book as it progresses, I would not categorize it as the purpose for the book itself. Most of my very favorite books are books with a very clear moral or life changing message, and this one has both in spades! Dealing with the loss of loved ones, how each choice we make (or appear not to make) effects the choices of others, and the consequences of such can leave your head spinning and set you up for life riddled with guilt and regret. That is Darby's life. And somehow, with every choice she makes, it only seems to get worse. Enter Torin. Bit by... more bit Torin breaks through the guilt Darby is carrying and hands it back to her. That sounds horrible, but he knows better than anyone that until you take hold of it, recognize it for what it is and deal with it, it will haunt you for the rest of your life. And through Megan Squires skillful writing, Torin does it all with a humor and a wit that makes a tough plot line like Rules of Regret a truly enjoyable journey.5 Very bright stars
review 2: I absolutely loved The Rules of Regret by Megan Squires. Torin has become one of my favorite male leads - and not because he's my personal ideal, but because of his genuine love and care for Darby, the female lead. And Darby, who was not even attracted to Torin in the beginning, falls in love with Torin as she gets to know the real person (faults and all) and finally lets go of personal insecurities, letting herself be truly loved. I personally relate so much to Darby and felt emotionally tied to both her personal transformations and regressions at times. This was such a refreshing love story as it deals with realistic characters, with all their faults and baggage, and develops into an ending where two people have become complete in each other. Truly a winner and a re-read!!! less
