review 1: Great book. It was a great way to tell Alice's story. Her life was full of ups and downs. It had many tragedies. Alice is a head strong girl who did what she wanted and went for the things she wanted. She didn't understand the consequences of her actions because she was forced into adult situations and she was only a child. Mr. Dodgson was a strange character, I don't understand why the girls were drawn to him. He was creepy and he didn't act towards children the right way. I absolutely hated Alice's mother. She was a mean woman and treated Alice like dirt. It is not Alice's fault for what happened and she is a child, she should not be blamed. Her mother never was nice to Alice and tried to deter her happiness in anyway she could. Alice's romances with Leopold was great, a... morend I wish it could have ended better. The rest of her life was sad and she seemed to live in the past. I wish that she had realized what she had earlier in life and not wished for a things that could not happen. The ending was good, she had closure and it was final.
review 2: This book starts out slow. Very slowly and may be a little hard to get into. However, stick with it. It is a very interesting take on a childhood classic tale, its author and the little girl who "inspired" the story. This book caused me to do some research into Lewis Carroll (Charles Dodgson) and Alice Liddell to learn the truth, or rather, theories on the truth, of their relationship. A very interesting story. less

Very good historical fiction. I liked Benjamin's approach to the story and how she structured it.
