review 1: This book was a good enough distraction for a long car ride. The problem I have with it is that for the full first half its a regular old secular story. Then once I was pretty invested and wanted to see how all the storylines would come together and wrap up, suddenly all the characters start talking about trusting in the Savior and going to church and that their impetus for doing or not doing things was due to what the holy spirit was telling them. If I had know I would end up being proselytized to I would never have picked up this book in the first place.
review 2: I'm not telling you what the book was about, you can read that in the description but I do want you to know what I thought. I loved this book it is a historical fiction, mystery that kept me trying ... moreto guess what was going to happen next all the way through. A well written book about Civil War times and God's redeeming grace.It makes me wonder what is in the structures of old houses still standing today? I'm glad I don't live in one because after reading this I would be constantly hunting for hidden treasures. less
