review 1: The book started off slow, but about midway through I found it hard to put down! In fact, I woke up at 1AM and couldn't get back to sleep until I read a few more chapters to find out what happened to the baby... The author did a wonderful job of drawing me into the story and I feel she portrayed the historical aspects very well. I now want to take a trip to Liberty, IN to discover more about the Underground Railroad in the area!
review 2: This isn't really the type of book I normally read. ( cheesy romancy or faith-based) but the title jumped out at me since the setting is local. Liberty, Indiana is a teeny-tiny town that if you blink while driving through, you'd miss it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't some over the top romance novel or pus... morehing religion. The main aspect of the story was the history. I found it interesting to read about a town in a different era. I was very surprised that I found myself unable to put it down. It even mentioned my hometown a couple of times which is only one town over from Liberty. I don't know if I would enjoy any of the other books in this series since I really connected with this one since I'm from the area, but who knows? I may have to check one out. less
