review 1: I'm still reading this, trying to decide if I should finish or not. Horrified and nauseated that a couple of characters spank their kids. I also feel that this should be billed as an "inspirational" book*, because the religious sub-theme is a pretty major part of the plot. Reminds me a lot of Grace Livingston Hill, which isn't really a compliment.*Beyond the fact that the description here is from a Christian distributor. That's the only hint that this is a book with HEAVY religious themes (most of the characters go to church, there is lots of Bible reading and talk of saviors, etc.).I get the feeling there is a romance coming (because isn't there always in this kind of book?), but it's not very convincing. There are too many sub-plots and they're going to intersect too lat... moree in the book. The way it's written gives it a very predictable feel. Definitely not recommended, and I'm not done yet. (I'm mostly skimming now.)Edit: Finished the book and was not surprised by anything.
review 2: This book was like an over-thought recipe-too much going on to be able to enjoy it. There was a mashing of subplots that never flowed, a few I never felt were really wrapped up at the end. The romantic vein in the book felt forced, like an afterthought that was written in later. The continuous references to religion and spirituality left me feeling uneasy, since I especially steer away from anything with those themes. I have to admit I skimmed through over half the book and still was able to follow along with everything. I never felt connected to any of the characters nor the plot, which seemed like it was going all over the place through most of the book. In short, it was confusing, misleading and awkward. less

I enjoyed this book. Light and clean mystery. Even though predictable, it was a good read.
