review 1: This was such a good book. I've come across so many novels attempting to portray gang rivalries and mafia bosses, and they all fall pretty flat, but this was fantastic. The setting was great, the characters kept my interest (some more than others), and the plot was something that I (for the most part) could realistically see happening. There were parts that felt a little rushed and sparse near the end, and bits that I thought could have been written better, but overall this was a really fantastic book. I've spent the last few nights up past 3am with my eyes glued to this book, anxiously devouring the pages. I highly recommend it.4.5 stars.
review 2: With Speak Easy, Melanie Harlow has created a most engaging suspenseful book with a comfortably flowing story lin
... moree. Although, not enough period detail is provided to call Speak Easy a historic novel, some of the colorful bootlegging characters help the reader gain a glimpse into the bootlegging era of the 20s. Tiny, the clever, feisty yet naive young lady and main character, is likable and well developed. However, the book does end with a cliffhanger, failing to bring the story to conclusion. Speak Easy's storyline is suspenseful and keeps the reader turning the pages. less
