review 1: * ARC provided by the author for an honest review * Forked by Melanie Harlow takes you into the life of Coco Thomas and her ex-husband reality TV cook Nick Lupo. This book follows after Melanie’s previous book Frenched although; you don’t have to read Frenched first. Coco is a partner at Devine Events with her best friend Mia Devine. While Mia is off to plan and be married, Coco is left in charge. During this time, in walks Angelina Spackatelli, a mob princess who demands an over the top engagement party with the TV star chef Nick Lupo AKA Cocos’ ex-husband who left her on her wedding night via a note that said “This was a mistake.” It was a Vegas wedding after all. After being forced to reconnect with her ex, Coco sets three conditions1. No talking about the ... morepast2. No second chances3. No. sex.Needless to say, some of these rules didn’t even last a day. Nick asks Coco to go with him to his Noni’s house to celebrate her birthday and Coco can’t find it in her heart to say no. This is where the real adventure begins.I absolutely loved Nick in this story and rooted for him from the beginning. He was a sweet, kind and loving male lead and I felt bad for him when he poured his heart out to Coco and didn’t get the same in return.Coco is a very funny lead female character in this book but to be honest, at some points I was quite annoyed with her. I wanted to reach in the book and slap her silly with some of the thoughts that ran through her head. She sometimes acted like a teenager instead of a 28-year-old partner of a business. In the end, I would give Forked a 4 star rating. The book ended at 84% but wrapped up well tying up all the loose ends that are left open. Melanie added a perfect mix of humor, love, and suspense in this book and I will never look at cookies or baking a cake the same ever again!Written by Becky for Summer’s Book Blog.
review 2: Loving this series from Melanie Harlow. This book was a fun, fast read. Coco and Nick's story was set in Detroit and had several sweet, romantic moments between these two characters. We also get to attend Mia and Lucas's wedding in Provence. Nick's behavior in the past was pretty awful and I was a bit disappointed with Coco for falling back in with him so quickly, after 7 years of silence. He definitely gave me plenty to think about in terms of acceptable behavior in a relationship -- there were plenty of "what would I do?" scenarios to mull over. I'm pretty sure Nick would be dead to me, but I grew to like him a lot in the end -- but he's no Lucas ;-) less
