review 1: Jillian Dare was a refreshing book to read after reading so many depressing books for school! I am familiar with the story of Jane Eyre although I have not read the book myself yet. I was enchanted how the book was so close to Jane Eyre yet in the modern world and recognized many of the similar scenes. Actually, I liked the story of Jillian Dare better than Jane Eyre! I was curious how Jeschke would solve the dilemmas of the story and was thrilled with the result! The morals of the book went right alongside my beliefs. I would recommend anyone who is a lover of clean romances or a lover of Jane Eyre to read this book!
review 2: Having read several contemporary treatments of Jane Austen's novels and having enjoyed some of them, I thought I'd branch out and read
... moreJillian Dare which is a re-telling of Jane Eyre in Virginia. I read this novel rather quickly, but I never really got engrossed in it. Rather, I read it to see how certain key scenes would play out in this modern version as compared to the original. Now, to be honest, Jane Eyre is just not my favorite novel. There were aspects that I really loved, but it was a little too spooky for me. Also, I could never really get behind Mr. Rochester and his moodiness. Jillian Dare hits all the main story points of Jane Eyre, but there just isn't enough detail and substance to make this novel noteworthy. less

Jillian Dare is a modern Jane Eyre. It was good, but a little too much melodrama thrown in.

Personal review: Very disappointing. Barely finished it. Nothing in the story drew me in.

Mediocre writing. Didn't feel like finishing the book, but did anyway.

A modern day retelling of Jane Eyre.
