review 1: I figured out my problem with this series. The plot and story is good. I like the concept, the politics, the conflicts, the idea of the faerie world...the problem is the characters. They all lack development. Everyone feels bland. And the way they are written...I feel no connection to them. I don't care about Seth, I can't feel Aislinn's despair when Seth left, and Keenan is pretty idiotic. I can feel more for Niall and Donia. Seth, Aislinn, and Keenan tend to react to situations in ways I find unrealistic. And again, I feel a fail to portray emotions and feelings. I was able to feel the tension between Keenan and Aislinn but I wanted more. Melissa has a way with constructing a pretty wonderful world but she has so many characters around, they all lack development and thei... morer conflicts with each other sway from foolish to pathetic....if not fail to properly portray them at all. I still like Irial, Leslie, and Niall so much more as protagonists.
review 2: DNF. Because I'm done trying to put myself into this world. I've been "reading" it for way too long now. Usually if I haven't finished a book by now in this amount of time it just means that I'm too busy (which I'm far from) or I just don't enjoy it. I'd rather spend my summer reading something I'll actually like.Keenan is annoying. Seth is the only good character. Aislinn is just too...i don't know. She doesn't settle right with me and that's not a good quality for a main character. Like I said I'm done with this series. Sadly enough. Has the possibility to be good with the setting, far world, etc. but I don't like the whiny tone(s). less
