review 1: Interesting, comical and in some sections I questioned if humans really did behaved like that 500 - 700 years ago. Wow. From George Carlin who introduced the 7 words you can't say on TV (now there are only 3), a movement seemed to have started. One thing Melissa Mohr pointed out in her studies was slang and how she determined slang from reviewing court records (civil arguments, etc.) as well as what was written on bathroom walls and in public areas. After reading this, I'm thinking a major portion of the population has now turned down their level swearing.
review 2: This book is full of quirky factoids:- Swearing is stored in the lower brain, quite separate from normal words.- Cunt is a word with roman/latin roots and was used in that area, but probably not
... moreto the same effect. - Swear words are used for objects and actions we are concerned or care about.- Tetragammon is the real name of god- Fighting words is a legal term for words deemed to insight disturbance of the peaceThe author touches quite regularly on theology and even a little philosophy thrown up the old question "Can god, who can do and create all, create a stone too heavy for himself to lift?"The theory regarding Adam and Eve is an interesting one. The bible doesn't say his rib in the original texts, it says Adam's side, which is a well known euphemism for penis. This theory has weight as the human penis doesn't have a bone. Unlike a large amount of other animals. Seeing this, early believers assumed the lack of human Baculim bone in men was because god removed it from the first man to create woman. I enjoyed the Yiddish insult that translates to "May all your teeth fall out except one, and that one give you a tooth ache."4 Stars: Good knowledge and chock full of interesting facts about the human condition less

Entertaining, fascinating, and laugh out loud funny in spots.

Dry, humor more sporadic than expected. Informative.
