review 1: While I've enjoyed the previous Iron Seas books quite a bit, I was less enthusiastic about this one. The plot was slower moving and less interesting than the other books and novellas. I guess I was hoping for a little more swashbuckling action, whereas the main characters spent most of their time reacting to events and trying to survive rather than taking considered action. I guess I'd rather read more about Yasmeen and Archimedes any day :-).
review 2: Eeeee! I'd put this book off to read the Kraken King far too long enough. Though unconnected (so far) with the rest of the story, it is pure steampunk gold! The whimsical gadgets, the social settings (a hidden community only of women)- their rituals and beliefs, and a fantastic steampunk world that's shaping ... moretogether (England, New World, Australia, Iceland- with revolts in Spain and Central Asia!).. less
