review 1: I selected this book based on a recommendation from the author Sarah Addison Allen. It seemed just like my kind of book with a little bit of magic. And I did like the magical part of the house helping women. However, I was put off by the fragmented chapters. I have never had a problem when chapters have different narrators so that the point of view is changing, but I had difficulty where the changes happened within the chapter itself .
review 2: I don't really know what to say about this book. There were times when I was eager to find out more and times when I was a bit bored. ... morefind out more about Alba her story was cut off by Carmen's or Greer's or Albert and so on :/ I also expected more from the previous inhabitants of the house but it was still nice to read there comments. The good thing about the book is that the feelings of the characters, particularly Alba, are written quite well and at times I could just feel her grief, confusion and sadness. But frankly, the book has depressed me a bit and makes me want to lose myself in a feel good book! less

This was a fantastical book but a joyful one, with much insight that can help all of us.

This is a lovely story, kind of a modern fable. I highly recommend it.
