review 1: I really enjoy the author of this book, Meredith, who writes a relationship column for the Boston Globe, and other well-written feature articles! I loved the premise of this book--singles at a wedding, there without their "+1" date. Each of the unmarried individuals at the wedding take turns narrating the book--as is so often the case, when I would put the book down to do "real work" I'd have to flip back to remember who was who in the story. I did find myself caught up in the book eventually, and especially enjoyed Hannah, Phil, and Rob. I found Vicki too odd to understand, and didn't quite get the whole Vicki-Joe-Jimmy scenes too well--maybe I'm just too old-fashioned! I liked the way Phil's self discovery was handled, and the subtle reunion with Hannah and her love... more at the end of the book. Overall, I enjoyed it!
review 2: I love Meredith Goldstein! I read Love Letters religiously and she gives some of the best advice around. Smart, rational, balanced advice - I wish we could be BFFs. But I think she's a better writer than this! I enjoyed the premise - single people at a wedding, story of my life - but her characters were selfish, hollow, and sort of boring. I got a little tired of the pop cultural references. A few are great - as I think they form a common bond with author and reader - but too many is oppressive. I felt like I was reading an OK Magazine after while, nevermind it will entirely date this book in years to come. Also, everyone felt like big cliches - hot uncle, pageant Southern friend who wears too much eyeliner and smokes, winy college girl who can't get over a bad boyfriend. And the one guy with the dog? I felt like that was way out of left field, it just didn't fit. I think if you enjoy chic lit you'll like this book, but this genre is just not for me, there's just not enough meat to them. I still love you Mere! less

Not my cup of tea, but this was a quick read that entertained my exhausted self over the holidays.

Mindless - easy read. Not really invested in the characters but situations were entertaining.
