review 1: Full disclosure - I know the author via GoodReads, because she hosts the group Great Middle Grade Reads. However, I would have wanted to read this book anyway, because libraries are my favorite places and librarians are my favorite people.The book did not disappoint. Pictures, story, and book design work together to make Miss RoseAleta's point that "Respectable towns have libraries filled with children." It's a serious message, presented lightly, and will probably motivate readers to dare to make a change. That is to say, it'd be a funny and cute enough adventure if it were fiction, but the fact that it is a true story gives it real impact.
review 2: Based on the ture story of RoseAleta Laurell, a librarian who arrived a teh Dr. Eugene Clark Library in Lock... morehart, Texas, to find that it had no children's section. Children of the town thought the library was for grown ups, and not them. RoseAleta started the fundraiser; she had herself hoisted up to the roof of the library and vowed to stay there until she raised enough money for a children's section in the library. After a week, she and the town had raised nearly $40,000.Whilst this is a children's picture book, the story resonates with library staff everywhere. less
