review 1: I give this story five hearts! I absolutely adored it!What an amazing first book for Author Mia Kayla! I fell in love this book! Mia pulls you into the story form the being and keeps you there until the story ends. Mia’s characters are realistic, fun, and full of surprises. I just had to know how this book ended!Bethany Casse “Beth” and Kent Plack are two strong willed characters from two very different worlds. They both have a past and a little mystery to them. This story is chalked full of playful banter between Beth and Kent. Beth is a quick-witted woman who makes no qualms about what she thinks about Kent or the world he lives in.Bethany worked hard her entire life to get where is at One Financial as an underwriter. She is independent and does what she needs to s... moreurvive. Kent Plack on the other hand is the heir to Plack Industries who has never worked a day in his life. Both have preconceived notions about the other. I could not help laugh at these two.Kent Plack is a man-whore spoiled brat! Sometimes I could not believe how he acted! Kent is a bad boy you learn to love! This sexy playboy keeps you dying for more!Oh! Did I mention that Kent is a little possessive over his new found best friend Beth? He is on uncharted territory when it comes to Beth. He’s never fallen for a woman before or been told he could not have something! But Author Mia Kayla did not stop there! Mr. All American Brian Burcham strolls into the picture with his sexy blue eyes and boyish charm that throws Beth off her game even more. He’s the type of man every woman wants to take home to the family… except Beth. Her little rule of “I don’t date coworkers” has her playing hard to get. But she never stood a chance against Brian’s charm. His sweet manners would driver any sane woman into caving!Mia Kayla does a fantastic job of keeping us on our toes! She knows how to throw you a good curveball just when you start to think you know what will happen next.
review 2: “Consider it a pact…Marry me for money.”—KentBeth has finally escaped the craziness of her past and has settled in Chicago with a perfect new job, a perfect new best friend, and a perfect boyfriend. Absolutely perfect! Except, when it turns out she can’t escape from her past and creditors thanks to her deadbeat mom and a little thing called identity theft, new best friend Kent has a perfect solution to his and her problem. He’ll lose his million-dollar trust fund if he’s not married soon so why not get married and fix both their problems? It’s a perfect plan except for when lines get blurred. Can their friendship survive a sham marriage? Or can a sham marriage become real…“For once, I just wanted it all.”—BethO.M.G. You know how there are some books that are so good that you know if you try to read another book after, it and every other book will be ruined for you until that moment of euphoria with finding a new favorite book fades? Yeah…this book is that for me. I actually started reading this book at 11:00PM (first bad idea) with my Kindle Fire at 30% battery (second bad idea) and at 1:00AM, when my KF died in the middle of an awesome scene, I was like “Noooooooooooooo!” But, it was for the best, because I would have kept on reading all night since I didn’t to put it down!OK, so how can a book be that good? I have no idea! The heroine can be childish, the hero is lazy with no ambitions, and the premise is pretty cold and gold-diggerish. And yet it was soooooooooo good! Beth isn’t some quiet introvert damaged by her past. She’s extremely lovable and wears her emotions on her sleeves. She’s hurt by her past, but she’s doing what she can to move forward and for her, humor and letting loose is key! She has no qualms making faces, teasing, and using laughter to dispel tension, yet she is so good-hearted and understanding. As one of the men in her love triangle points out, who could resist loving her?As for our lazy, ambition-less Kent, I should dislike him on shear principle. His grandfather and father built a multi-million dollar company, and Kent doesn’t even want to try running it. He’d rather spend his hefty allowance on parties, women, and not doing anything at all until he turns 25 and can get his hands on his trust fund. Like I said, totally unlikable…except he is so freaking likable! In fact, I kept wanting to kick him and get his act together, because he is so perfect for Beth even though the two of them are determined to stay in the friend zone! The way he treats Beth is so swoon-worthy—and they’re not even dating! He is seriously the bestest best friend ever. Bestest! As for the premise of marrying for money? Yep, seems pretty gold-diggerish except the way the author unfolds the story, it doesn’t seem that all! It actually seems like a perfect solution for two people who trust each other and need a practical solution to their problems. Beth can be free from the crippling debt her mother put her into, and Kent can get his trust fund and keep his life-style going. But throw in new boyfriend Brian—a hard-working, gorgeous and sweet guy straight from Beth dreams—, some serious guilt, future in-laws that are the parents Beth always wanted, and blurring lines that makes Kent wonder what life he really wants, and you’ve got a great story! What I loved most about this book is that Beth and Kent aren’t fighting combustable, insta-lust sexual tension from day one. They’re best friends. Literally best friends, and it’s so awesome seeing their relationship grow as friends and how they react to hook-ups/relationships with others, unwanted blasts from the pasts, and more. They’re there for each other and honest about everything with each other, even though they’re marrying for monetary reasons—and not necessarily theirs. For romance, there are a few medium level heat scenes, and despite there being a love triangle, Beth isn’t jumping from one to the other like that. As for which she chooses: the best friend or the best boyfriend? You’ll have to see! Although I loved this book so much, I do want to point out that it’s not flawless. There are some plot points that seemed kinda off/implausible/fishy, and I kept expecting/dreading something during a major fight that was never mentioned (this one made no sense but I don’t want to reveal what it is since it’d be a major spoiler)—yet they were all forgivable since I loved the characters so much that some of the scenes totally made me laugh out loud while others made me bawl! This is going on my favorites shelf for sure; this is a 5 out of 5 for me!(Originally posted on my blog; I received a review copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.) less
