review 1: While this book can be read over a weekend - and is actually organized to be completed from Friday night to Sunday afternoon - I didn't have the luxury to get away. That did little to take away from the immense beauty of this book. Fr. Gaitley writes just as he speaks. The approachable language embraces the richness of the Catholic faith while peeling back a layer of loving Jesus I have never before considered. Catholic or Christian, this book is a MUST READ!
review 2: This is a great step by step book to building your interior castle in turn learning the principle "first things first." Which is keeping our eyes fixed on our goal, the first thing. The principle St Peter learned see Matt 14:24-31. Fr. Michael Gaitley refers to it as "the primacy of contemplati
... moreon." Ignatius explains to us that we must live the "first thing" by use of "second things." Meaning they help us live the first thing. First thing-is the goal, goal is God, second things are the things of this earth that help us in attaining that goal. We need to be able to find a balance between using and ridding (of the things that unbalance us). By beginning simply we will learn and read in this book exactly what it means to "console the heart of Jesus." less
