review 1: I selected this book because it had a cat on the cover. I thought it was a JPB, but was surprised that it was a nice book of somewhat historical fiction. It's a quick read about a young boy and a cat he comes to care for. That they were on the Titanic is an interesting way to move the story along.I really, really liked War Horse and have come to appreciate the way Michael Morpurgo writes and what he writes about.I recommend this book.
review 2: There are only so many ways I can declare how gorgeous Morpurgo's books are but sorry, this one is a must-have! ... moreered on the Titanic is a big wow, and Morpurgo makes it very real (and sad). I just am a little uncomfortable with the presence of ghosts, which is arguably realistic especially in London, but might scare off a younger reader. Iam not sure. Morpurgo wrote this as a writer in residence at London's Savoy Hotel where he and his wife had a bed "the size of Ireland." He spun this story after seeing a cat sculpture at the hotel, plus a few other clues. Amazing. Suitable for ages 9-12. less
