review 1: This book was amazing. I stumbled upon Wild Fell, read it and absolutely loved Michaels writing style. I soon learnt that Enter Night was actually his first novel so I bought it the next day. I loved that one even MORE! I decided to write to Michael Rowe to thank him for such wonderful stories and asked him a few questions about the characters. He responded with 960 words of pure kindness and I was so appreciative of him taking the time to answer my questions. I will forever be a great fan of Mr.Michael Rowe.
review 2: Like many great writers, Michael Rowe dishes out love and cruelty in equal measure in his debut novel, ENTER, NIGHT (ChiZine Publications), a gripping story with well drawn characters that brings new life to the recently stagnant vampire tale. Fu
... moreeled by desperate circumstances, a mother and daughter, under the aegis of brother-in-law Jeremy Parr, head north from Toronto to the remote northern mining town of Parr’s Landing, a community ruled by family matriarch Adeline Parr. And oh, what a horribly compelling character she is, her awful personality looming over the entire story and at times more frightening than the undead threat. That threat, when awakened by the deliciously savage Richard Weal, is swift and merciless, as is the author, striking down inhabitants of Parr’s Landing with the speed of a plague. Stemming from the fascinating and blundering 17th century Jesuit attempts to convert the Ojibwa, the vampires of ENTER, NIGHT are intertwined with local myths of the Wendigo, a spirit that inhabits people and drives them to consume human flesh. In a word, folks, these vampires don’t sparkle. It may be a cliché of the genre to say that we are the true monsters, but Rowe unflinchingly contrasts the deliberate darkness of the human soul as well as the brightness (the latter demonstrated by characters such as Jeremy, Christina and my favorite, Billy Lightning) against the natural evil of the vampire. Tough, frightening and unafraid to go where it needs, ENTER, NIGHT is one helluva read for any fan of horror, vampires or damn good writing. less

Part Stephen King, part Dean Koontz. Scary and sad. Loved it.
