review 1: Ages 3 and up Janie Jane gets the cutest present for her birthday, a little dog named Sir Yips-a-lot. Janie Jane and Sir Yips-a-lot do all sorts of cute things together throughout the year and before you know it, it is Janie Jane's birthday again. She opens up her present and gets the cutest little cat named Lady Meow-meow. Soon Janie Jane spends all of her time with Lady Meow-meow and doesn't pay much attention to Sir Yips-a-lot. Sir Yips-a-lot decides that the only way he can get Janie Jane to pay attention to him is to get rid of the cat, which he does by pushing it through the mail slot to the outside. Janie Jane is distraught that Lady Meow-meow has disappeared so Sir Yips-a-lot decides that he must find the cat and bring it home. He finds the cat and takes it home, b... moreut decides that he isn't going to go inside and instead leave. Lady-Meow-meow is happy to be home, but distraught that Sir Yips-a-lot has left and leaves to find him. Janie Jane chases the cat down and finds her with Sir Yips-a-lot and declares that they are the cutest things ever and after that they all did everything cute together. This would be fun for a dog or cat themed story time. You could also use this book to talk about how you shouldn't ignore people or pets because you think something better has come along. You never know whose feelings you will hurt if you do.
review 2: Janie Jane just loves cute things. For her birthday, her parents give her the cutest thing! A puppy who loves to yip, yip, yip. Janie Jane calls him Sir Yips-A-Lot and they do everything together. Throughout the whole year, they spend every moment together. When Janie Jane's birthday comes around again, her parents give her the cutest little -- kitten. She is so cute. Just the cutest thing ever. And not Sir Yips-a-lot has a competitor.
