review 1: In almost graphic novel format, this story of a misunderstanding between Monkey and Elephant is hilarious.Monkey is on his way to Elephants house with a special treat when he notices that Elephant is having a party without him. Sad and then angry, Monkey decides to get even. What follows is revenge served up hot and cold on both sides. Eventually their friends have had enough and strand them in a boat in the middle of the water with instructions that they must make up before they return to the island. Elephant's feet have been encased in concrete so he can't swim and Monkey has been given the chisel and hammer. They must reconcile to get off the island.Due to the graphic novel format this story is best suited for individual and one-on-one reading.
review 2: Oh ... moreso cute. Very funny with a great message about friendship and misunderstandings. Of course any time a smiley face is drawn on an sleeping elephants bottom 6 and 8 year-old boys are going to laugh especiallyif subsequent mention of the incident uses the word butt--hysterical laughter. Almost as funny as Bear in Underwear which they can't think about without laughing. Highly recommended for children of all ages and particularly for Jr. High age girls and any woman who has a best friend. less
