review 1: Love is a journey, not a destination...This was my first Michelle Mankin read. I was lured by the promise of a rock star, they are my weakness. I must confess that I absolutely loved the story itself. However; I was a little surprised once I started reading to discover that it was G rated. As I'm sure you know, this is unusual because sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll are usually a package deal. After reading another review that mentioned how much her 13 yr old enjoyed the book I thought to myself, "yup, I would have totally gone fangirl over this book when I was that age". Being an adult, my preference would be to dirty it up a little, throw in some cuss words and some sexy scenes. I don't want to be one of those reviewers that reads a book outside of their preferred gen... morere and then criticize the author for that choice. The truth is that I would not have chosen to read this book had I known in advance that it was 'sweet' and 'polite' rather than gritty. But you know what, I would have missed out. I really enjoyed it. I plan to continue reading this collection. I loved the creativity of the song writing and the rapport the band members shared. I thought the authors knowledge and portrayal of the music industry was very interesting. I especially liked the family connections and the behind the scenes suspense that kept me guessing. The 'secret' that Avery was keeping had me turning those pages, waiting for the big reveal.
review 2: Twelfth Night is one of my a time favorite Shakespeare plays, this modern twist plus the added bonus of rock n roll music genre, cinch the deal for me.The characters were lovable, relatable and funny. I fell for Marcus hard from the get go and rooted for Avery all the way. The interactions of Marcus and Avery added the comic relief, and was an interesting twist to the love building relationships that we usually read in these type of books. However it went really well with the story line and complimented it greatly. The only issue with this book is that the author wrote the middle part so lengthy that but the time she came to wrap up the story and give conclusions it was rushed and not very finesse. Though we know who ended up with who and who gets their just deserts, plus we are all happy to see that Justin was 't really dead, I believe that that aspect of the story; Justin in wit-sec would have harder a bit more mystery and intrigue to the entire story, making it a bit more sizzling and not the feeling of rushing and shoving everything into a neat pretty package! However all in a it was a great story, fun characters and a good enough ending to make the reader want more of Marcus and Avery! less
