review 1: This installment goes back to Sarah and Thierry and their new set of problems. On a trip to her high school reunion, Sarah gets lucky enough to bump into a classmate with a long-standing grudge. She curses Sarah to become all the stereotypical vampire qualities. Blood lust, burns in the sun, mind control. This is bad cause it makes Sarah now uncontrollable over her own actions. I didn't rate this too high because Sarah's and Amy's teenaged mentality in 30-year old bodies finally started to wear on me. On the plus side, we do get some interlude chapters where we learn a lot more about Thierry's past. We get to hear his side of everything we have learned from Veronique. I like this immensely because Thierry's character has always come off as one dimensi... moreonal.
review 2: To be fair, I didn't realize this was a series when I began reading "Stakes and Stilettos" so I didn't understand the constant references to things that had happened in the last 10 weeks of the often-in-danger fledgling vampire, Sarah's life. Also, paranormal slap-stick isn't my cup of tea. That being said, this book failed to hold my interest. I found the characters a bit flat, so even though the writing was solid, I wasn't intrigued to see if the heroine would survive her many, many perils, or to find out if she would finally work out her issues with her boring, sometimes-suicidal,master-vampire boyfriend. If you are interested in silly vampires and start with the first book in the series, you will probably like this book. Warning... the ending is a bit cliff-hanger-ish because this isn't the last book in the series. less
